Our Story

We build relief devices for people who have quietly given something up, and would like it back.

It started with a staircase

Five years ago, the woman who raised our founder stopped coming downstairs for dinner.

She never explained why. She simply ate upstairs, said she wasn't very hungry, and changed the subject. It took months before the truth came out. The stairs had become too much. Her knees had quietly taken something from her, and she had quietly decided not to trouble anyone about it.

That is usually how it happens. Not with a dramatic diagnosis or a hospital visit. With a small surrender that nobody notices.

She was seventy-four. She had raised four children, worked for forty years, and walked every single day of her life. And she had decided, on her own and without telling a soul, that the ground floor was where she lived now.

We were not willing to accept that.

We went looking for something to help. We did not like what we found.

On one side were the gadgets. Cheap vibrating pads that buzzed for a week and then died in a drawer. Devices with twenty buttons and an instruction booklet printed in six languages, none of them large enough to read comfortably. Products designed to be sold once, not used every day.

On the other side were the clinics. Real help, real hands, real relief, at sixty pounds a session, twice a week, with a long waiting list and a car journey she could no longer make comfortably.

Between the two, there was nothing. Nothing serious enough to actually work, and simple enough for a seventy-four-year-old woman to use on her own, at home, on a quiet Tuesday afternoon, without having to ask anybody for help.

So we decided to build it ourselves.

Three rules we have never broken

1. It has to work in the first week

Not in six months. Not "with consistent use over time". Relief you can feel while you are still deciding whether to keep it.

That is why every Claro Relief device does three things at once instead of doing one thing weakly. Soothing heat to loosen what has gone stiff. Gentle massage to release what has gone tight. Targeted compression to support the joint while it recovers. Fifteen minutes a day. That is the whole commitment.

2. It has to be usable by someone who dislikes technology

One button. A few clear settings. No app to download, no account to create, no menu to navigate, no pairing, no updates.

Our rule in the workshop is simple: if our own parents cannot switch it on and use it without ringing us for instructions, it does not go into production. We have sent prototypes back for this reason more than once.

3. It has to survive real life

Daily use. Cold winter mornings. Being dropped on a tiled floor. Being left running for an hour because somebody fell asleep in the armchair. Being packed into a suitcase and taken to a daughter's house at Christmas.

Our devices are built to be used every day for years, not to look impressive in a photograph and disappoint you in month two.

Why we listen to physiotherapists

We are not doctors, and we will never pretend to be. But we are stubborn about asking people who are.

Every product we make is reviewed by qualified physiotherapists before it reaches you. Not to give us a badge for the website, but to answer the questions that actually matter. Is the heat in the right place for this joint? Is the compression supportive without restricting circulation? Is fifteen minutes the right session length, or are we asking too much of an inflamed knee?

Some of what they told us was not what we wanted to hear. We changed the products anyway. That is the point of asking.

What we will never do

We will never tell you this replaces your doctor. It does not. If you have a new pain, a sudden pain, or a pain that frightens you, please see a professional. Our devices are made for the everyday ache that has settled in and made itself at home, not for diagnosis.

We will never promise you a miracle. Some people feel a difference on the first evening. Others tell us it took ten days of daily use before they noticed. Anyone who guarantees you an exact result on an exact day is selling you something else.

We will never put you on a subscription. You buy the device once. There are no refills, no cartridges, no monthly charge, no auto-renewal buried in the small print. We think that is how it ought to be.

We will never make it complicated. Every time we have been tempted to add a feature, we have asked whether it makes life easier for a seventy-four-year-old woman sitting alone in her armchair. Usually the answer has been no, and the feature has gone.

Ninety days, and we mean it

We ask you to give it fifteen minutes a day for ninety days.

If at the end of that you have not felt the relief we promised, write to us and we will refund you. No forms to fill in for a fortnight, no arguing about whether you used it correctly, no restocking fee hidden at the bottom of a page.

We can offer that because we know what happens when people actually use these devices. The ninety days are not a marketing device. They are the time it honestly takes for a stiff joint to start behaving differently.

Where we are today

Five years on, more than twelve thousand people across the United Kingdom, France, Spain and beyond have brought a Claro Relief device into their home.

We read the messages they send us. A grandmother who walked a coastal path with her grandchildren for the first time in two years. A retired postman whose feet stopped burning at night. A builder of forty years who finally sleeps through until morning. A woman who can fasten her own seatbelt without wincing.

None of these are dramatic stories. That is exactly why they matter. Nobody writes an article about a woman who came downstairs for dinner again. But if it is your mother, it is the only story that counts.

She comes downstairs now

She uses her Knee Massager Pro every morning before her walk. She says her knees feel oiled again, which is not a medical term but is the only description she will accept.

That is the whole reason this company exists. Not to sell a device. To give somebody back a small, ordinary, enormous piece of their day.

If something has quietly been taken from you, we would very much like to help you take it back.
